White-faced Ibis Flock in Flooded Rice Field
The rice harvest is underway in Northern California (Late September into October). When the field is done, the fields are flooded to provide winter habitat and food for the millions of birds that migrate through the area along the Pacific Flyway in the fall and winter. The White-faced Ibis is a year round resident here and they get an early chance at the fields. Soon they will joined Snow Geese, Tundra Swans and a myriad of ducks and a wide variety of shore birds.
