Black Skimmer with breakfast for chicks
On my first trip to Bolsa Chica Wetlands I was thrilled to photograph new species. The one I was most on the lookout for was the Black Skimmer, I had hoped for skimming pictures. No go, they were skimming elsewhere and bringing back catches. What I like about this image is that you can really see the mechanics of the beak, how the lower beak is longer and you can see the opening in the back where the water is expelled when they skim on the top of the water for fish. Going back in August with hopes for skimming images!
